About the Department
Rehabilitation & Therapy
The Department of Rehabilitation and Therapy prepares students for careers in physical therapy, occupational rehabilitation, and allied health — disciplines dedicated to restoring function, reducing pain, and improving quality of life for patients affected by injury, illness, disability, or chronic conditions.
The curriculum covers human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, therapeutic exercise, manual therapy techniques, electrotherapy, occupational therapy principles, and rehabilitation technology — providing graduates with the broad clinical toolkit needed to treat patients across diverse healthcare settings.
With Iraq's growing population of trauma patients, stroke survivors, elderly people, and individuals with chronic musculoskeletal conditions, the demand for qualified rehabilitation therapists is expanding rapidly. Our graduates work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community clinics, and private practice.

Direction & Purpose
Vision & Mission
🔭
Vision
To be Iraq's leading rehabilitation therapy department — producing graduates who restore function and independence to patients through evidence-based therapeutic practice, and who contribute to the development of rehabilitation services across the Iraqi healthcare system.
🎯
Mission
To deliver a comprehensive rehabilitation and therapy education that combines anatomical knowledge, clinical assessment skills, and therapeutic techniques — preparing graduates to provide effective, patient-centred rehabilitation care that improves outcomes and quality of life across the communities they serve.
Strategic Direction
Objectives & Goals
Develop strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and musculoskeletal pathology as the foundation of effective rehabilitation practice.
Train students in clinical assessment — range of motion, muscle strength testing, gait analysis, functional capacity, and pain assessment.
Develop proficiency in therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, mobilisation techniques, and neuromuscular rehabilitation.
Provide training in electrotherapy modalities: ultrasound, TENS, interferential therapy, laser, and short-wave diathermy.
Equip graduates with occupational therapy principles — activity analysis, adaptive equipment, and functional rehabilitation for daily living.
Train students in neurological rehabilitation for stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, and cerebral palsy patients.
Develop paediatric therapy skills for children with developmental delays, cerebral palsy, and congenital musculoskeletal conditions.
Establish clinical placement partnerships with rehabilitation hospitals, physiotherapy units, and community health centres.

A Message from the Head of Department
Rehabilitation is the quiet heroism of healthcare. When a stroke survivor takes their first independent steps, when a child with cerebral palsy learns to hold a pencil, when a worker injured on the job returns to their family — a rehabilitation therapist made that possible. Our department trains students to be those people: patient, skilled, persistent, and genuinely committed to restoring function and independence. Iraq needs rehabilitation therapists urgently, and I am proud that our graduates are answering that call every day across the country.
